Many patients with severe functional mitral (MR) and tricuspid valve regurgitation (TR) cannot undergo cardiac surgery due to prohibitive surgical risks and are thus candidates for percutaneous edge-to-edge repair. The MitraClip therapy is approved for use in patients with severe MR who have a prohibitive risk for conventional mitral valve surgery.
