Tuberkulose (TB) wird durch Bakterien des Mycobacterium-tuberculosis-Komplexes ausgelöst und zählt weltweit zu den häufigsten Infektionserkrankungen. Die Übertragung erfolgt von Mensch zu Mensch durch erregerhaltige Aerosole. Häufigster Manifestationsort ist die Lunge, es können aber auch andere Organe betroffen sein. In ca. 90 % der Fälle kann das Immunsystem die Infektion begrenzen, dieser Zustand wird als latente tuberkulöse Infektion (LTBI) bezeichnet. Gelingt dies nicht, kommt es zu einer Erkrankung, die durch eine Kombination verschiedener Antibiotika über mehrere Monate behandelt werden muss. Herausforderungen stellen Medikamentenresistenzen und komplexe Krankheitsbilder sowie Komorbiditäten und Koinfektionen dar, deren Behandlung unter Beratung eines TB-Zentrums erfolgen sollte.
