Excerpt

Ringworm of the head (tinea capitis) is a common childhood dermatophytosis. When suspected, direct microscopy and culturing are necessary to rule out other scalp alterations. Oral griseofulvin is the only approved therapy for paediatric tinea capitis in many countries; however, newer antifungal agents (itraconazole, fluconazole and terbinafine) require a shorter duration of treatment and have acceptable adverse event and drug interaction profiles.
