We were interested to read the impressive study by Hussein et al. in
World Journal of Urology [
1] and would like to congratulate the authors for their excellent study about urinary microbiome during bladder cancer (BCa) treatment. Hussein et al. [
1] systematically compared the urinary microbiome profile between “Tumor group” (de novo tumors or recurrent/progressed after transurethral resection of BCa ± intravesical therapy) and “No Recurrent Tumor group” (no evidence of recurrence after treatment) based on 16S rRNA sequencing from 68 BCa urine samples. The authors [
1] found beta diversity of microbiome was significantly different between the two groups (P = 0.04), which indicated the dynamic change during treatment. In addition, “Tumor group” carried more Veillonella and Bifidobacterium (P < 0.001), while Escherichia-Shigella and Helococcus were more abundant in “No Recurrent Tumor group” (P < 0.001). This research provides valuable insights into clinical management of BCa. However, there are a few points that we would like to discuss. …
