Zusammenfassung

Die steigende Zahl der Patienten mit fortgeschrittener Herzinsuffizienz in Zusammenhang mit der Knappheit an Spenderherzen führt zu einem Anstieg der Zahl der Ventricular-assist-device (VAD)-Implantationen. Ziel der VAD-Therapie ist die Verbesserung der Lebenserwartung und der Lebensqualität. Mit dem VAD kann die links- und/oder rechtsventrikuläre Funktion entweder vorübergehend bis zur Herztransplantation, Eignung für die Listung für die Transplantation oder Erholung unterstützt werden. Zunehmende Bedeutung gewinnt auch die permanente Unterstützung. Die Auswahl der VAD-Kandidaten und die rechtzeitige Evaluation und Implantation des geeigneten Systems können den Erfolg der Therapie weiter verbessern. Die frühe Implantation kann mit besseren Ergebnissen verbunden sein.
