Evidence of systemic racism towards Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) in healthcare is so pervasive that reports of disparities in the delivery of evidence-based healthcare to BIPOC patients are not surprising, but are nevertheless appalling. Systemic racism in healthcare is especially disturbing because clinicians pledge to “do no harm.” In the era of illegally manufactured high potency synthetic opioids and a lethal drug supply, failing to offer lifesaving evidence-based medications for opioid use disorder (OUD) to hospitalized patients with OUD is most certainly harmful. …
