The European Green Deal, launched shortly after the installment of the current European commission, is a set of policy initiatives which aim to make Europe climate neutral by 2050 and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 55% by 2030 [
1]. The Green Deal offers unique opportunities for funding of efforts to make Europe a leading environment-friendly continent. Considering these opportunities, and in view of the environmental burden related to kidney care [
2], the European Kidney Health Alliance (EKHA), a Brussels-based advocacy platform representing patients with kidney diseases and kidney care professionals at the level of the European Union (EU) (see acknowledgments for details) devotes this year’s annual policy event to green nephrology (Fig.
