Zusammenfassung

Das Kernsymptom pathologischen Kaufens ist ein entgleister, nichtzweckgebundener und bedarfsunabhängiger Warenkonsum, der in psychischen, sozialen und finanziellen Problemen mündet. Die Kaufexzesse dienen der Emotionsregulation und sind durch einen chronischen episodenhaften Verlauf gekennzeichnet. Pathologisches Kaufen ist mit einer hohen psychischen Komorbidität assoziiert, insbesondere mit Depressionen, Angststörungen, schädlichem Substanzkonsum, Binge Eating und mit dem zwanghaften Horten der Konsumgüter. Kognitiv-verhaltenstherapeutische Gruppentherapie hat sich in mehreren kontrollierten Pilotstudien als hilfreich erwiesen. Laut Repräsentativbefragungen scheinen ca. 8 % der erwachsenen Bevölkerung kaufsuchtgefährdet zu sein. Gleichwohl ist pathologisches Kaufen noch keine anerkannte psychische Störung. Es besteht Forschungsbedarf hinsichtlich valider diagnostischer Kriterien, Ätiologie, Neurobiologie, Krankheitsverlauf, Klassifikation und differenzieller Behandlungskonzepte.
