Belastbare epidemiologische Zahlen sind die Voraussetzung dafür, die Krankheitslast, die Kosten und den Versorgungsbedarf von Krankheiten abzuschätzen. Wichtige Kennziffern sind die Häufigkeit in der Bevölkerung (Prävalenz), die Alters- und Geschlechtsverteilung sowie die jährliche Neuerkrankungsrate (Inzidenz). Im Bereich der muskuloskeletalen Erkrankungen wird teilweise mit sehr unterschiedlichen Zahlen argumentiert. Dies lässt sich einerseits mit unterschiedlichen Definitionen rheumatischer und muskuloskeletaler Erkrankungen, andererseits mit zeitlich oder räumlich differenten Stichproben erklären. …
