Pediatric Ophthalmology in the Emergency Room

Abstract

The cornea is the anterior-most portion of the eye and serves both as a refracting surface and as a protective covering for the eye. The cornea is contiguous with the sclera, and the two layers together form the outer tunic of the eye. The cornea is susceptible to traumatic and nontraumatic injury. In this chapter, we will discuss corneal anatomy, corneal abrasion, chemical burn, corneal foreign body injuries, corneal laceration, and contact-lens-related issues.
